So recently I decided to try and get into the best shape possible within 12 weeks. I worked with a coach over the course of a 12 week plan and lost a total of 10kg through training, nutrition and lifestyle changes
So why did I want to do this? As a PT it is easy to become unaccountable, we spend a lot of time creating plans and helping our clients that sometimes our own stuff falls by the wayside, would I say I was out of shape? Some people might say not, but for me I was unhappy with how I looked and so wanted to change, I’d also got bored with my training and had become a little lazy with nutrition.
So it was time to create a plan, even PTs need a coach to get them back on track so it was time to devise the plan.
Nutrition: eating mostly the same meals every day, reducing calories gradually every 3-4 weeks. No fad diet, just calorie counting.
Training: 5 sessions a week, minimal cardio apart from the final 4 weeks -> total 90 minutes on the stepper each week!
Lifestyle: 10k average daily steps, better sleeping routines and (trying) to better my mental health.
First couple of weeks were the hardest part, getting used to not being able to eat whatever I fancied. Chocolate, beer, crisps. I still had a treat every now and then, but the same as I say to my clients if you overcome the first few weeks of a new routine then it becomes easy.
Towards the end I had no treat or “off plan meal” for the final 4 weeks, but that really didn’t phase me at that point. I could see the end goal, see the progress and bought in to the plan! I loved it in the end, although feel I could have gotten even leaner.
12 weeks in the grand scheme of things is not a long time to give up certain things, work hard and get in the best shape of your life.
What’s next for me now? Well I’ve had a bit more fun this last week, I’ve since enjoyed a donut (or 10), I do feel a bit lost again without a plan like anyone I think having direction is good and having a goal is so important so next I will look to increase muscle mass and see where we go from here.
